27 SETTEMBRE 1957:
E' passato un anno ed un giorno dal suo ritorno a Tupelo per esibirsi in concerto da grande celebrità della musica ed oggi Elvis Presley è nuovamente nella sua città natale, ancora insieme ai suoi genitori, ad Anita Wood e ad alcuni amici.Il giornale locale lo definisce "Il miglior ambasciatore che qualsiasi città vorrebbe avere" ed invita tutti i cittadini a dargli un caloroso benvenuto.
Elvis si trova a Tupelo per esibirsi al Fairground in un concerto di beneficenza per "Elvis Presley Youth Center", il centro giovanile a lui dedicato, ma per il quale ci vollero parecchi anni prima che la costruzione venisse portata a termine.
Solo alcune telefonate fatte da Elvis nel Febbraio 1961 al Sindaco James Ballard portarono ad un cambiamento radicale della situazione, tanto che l'Elvis Presley Park venne costruito letteralmente in un giorno e l'Elvis Presley Youth Center venne terminato subito dopo.
Il Centro disponeva di una piscina, un parco giochi ed un'area picnic e dava la possibilità di organizzare balli scolastici.
In seguito, durante gli anni '60, i fans di Elvis iniziarono a visitare i luoghi in cui sorgeva la casa in cui Elvis è nato e, nel 1964, lo stesso Vernon Presley andò a vedere la casa.
Sebbene ci siano opinioni contrastanti sul fatto che la casa sia stata spostata dalla sua posizione originale, che sarebbe stata nelle immediate vicinanze, il fatto che Elvis avesse donato somme di denaro alla città di Tupelo per l'acquisto del terreno su cui sorgeva l'Elvis Presley Park, diede l'impulso a preservare la casa e restaurarla.
Quello che un tempo era il numero 306 di Old Saltillo Road, divenne Elvis Presley Drive ed è il luogo in cui si trova la casa natale di Elvis accanto all'Elvis Presley Youth Center.
Ci sono 12.000 persone a vederlo e, per l'occasione, indossa la sua giacca di lamé dorato.
Non avendo più al suo fianco sul palcoscenico Scotty Moore e Bill Black, viene accompagnato da Hank Garland alla chitarra, D.J. Fontana alla batteria e Chuck Wiggington, un amico di D.J., al basso.

Scendendo dalla limousine, cade sulle ginocchia e Tony Brown, che è presente in quel momento, racconta che Elvis è totalmente rintronato, non solo in quel momento, ma durante l'intero spettacolo. Le sue condizioni sono davvero pessime e la sua performance rispecchia pienamente il suo stato. In un passaggio, avverte il pubblico che potrebbe cadere a terra da un momento all'altro e poi, più o meno ironicamente, aggiunge che, se dovesse cadere dal palco, chiede di esserci rimesso sopra.
Da molti è giudicato il peggior concerto di Elvis Presley.
