Elvis Presley si esibisce al St. Francis County Fair and Livestock Show Jamboree, Smith Stadium, Forrest City, Arkansas.
Elvis è l'attrazione principale in un tour di 5 giorni in cui ci sono anche Johnny Cash, Bud Deckelman, Floyd Cramer e Eddie Bond.
Nel 1954 Elvis aveva fatto un'audizione per Eddie Bond, ma senza successo.
Gladys Presley, mamma di Elvis, è seduta dietro al caravan sul quale Elvis si esibisce.
Ollie Warren, un musicista locale che ogni tanto faceva da batterista a Roy Orbison, ricorda di aver incontrato Gladys Presley a questo spettacolo mentre sedeva nella Crown Victoria parcheggiata dietro al caravan sul quale Elvis si è esibito.
Warren ha raccontato: "Elvis si stava esibendo su un caravan al campo da football nel periodo in cui frequentavo il liceo a Forrest City, in Arkansas. Il mio migliore amico, Bobby White, ed io avevamo appena finito le prove della band del liceo ed abbiamo deciso di andare al campo da football per vedere cosa stesse succedendo.
Abbiamo visto una Ford Crown Victoria rosa e bianca parcheggiata dietro il pianale. Mentre stavamo lì ad ammirarla, le luci del campo si riflettevano sulle finestre e non potevamo vedere all'interno, quindi ho alzato la faccia verso la finestra per ripararla dalla luce. Gladys Presley mi stava guardando dall'altra parte: "Tesoro, posso aiutarti?".
Le ho detto che stavo solo ammirando la macchina. Ci ha detto che Elvis era suo figlio e ci ha chiesto se l'avessimo mai incontrato. Abbiamo detto che di no e lei ci ha invitato a sederci sul sedile posteriore finché non avesse finito la sua esibizione. Ha detto che ce lo avrebbe presentato. Dopo pochi minuti è arrivato. Abbiamo parlato per un po', mi ha autografato una foto e poi se n'è andato per l'esibizione successiva. Gladys ci ha abbracciati e ci ha invitato a far loro visita a Memphis. Era davvero una bella persona".

Con questo gesto intende ringraziare i suoi amici per la protezione che gli hanno dato nelle ultime settimane durante l'ingaggio a Las Vegas. La fattura del gioielliere è di 1486,50 dollari.

Elvis Presley all'inizio della settimana è stato ricoverato in ospedale. Le motivazioni del ricovero non riguardano solamente l'eccessiva stanchezza, ma, secondo il dottor Nick, c'è anche un forte stato depressivo, problemi intestinali, al fegato e nei valori del colesterolo. Un paio di infermiere accettano di occuparsi di lui a tempo pieno.
